TRNSEAL-Air Barrier Systems
Efficient Sealing for Rail Vehicles
TRNSEAL is an innovative inflatable air-tightness system for railway depots, maintenance halls, workshops, and train storage halls. It reliably closes the remaining opening between the rail vehicle and the gate opening, creating an effective thermal barrier between the interior and exterior. As a result, operators can significantly reduce draughts, heat loss, and the energy consumption of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems.
The system was specifically developed to meet the requirements of rail transport: it adapts to different train contours – from small vehicles to large multiple-unit trains – and is ready for use in less than one minute. TRNSEAL therefore combines high sealing performance with fast operation, robust construction, and flexible integration into existing halls.
The Principle: Contour-Accurate Air Barrier
TRNSEAL consists of inflatable sealing cushions mounted on a stable steel substructure. High-strength polyester material, together with the sealing pads and lateral bellows, forms a durable barrier that precisely adapts to the contour of the entering vehicle and enables reliable sealing of the remaining gap.
In the idle position, the system remains retracted to save space. As soon as a train reaches the hall, the cushions are inflated at the push of a button. They close the gaps at the top and sides of the vehicle; an optional floor cushion also provides sealing in the lower area. This creates an almost complete separation between the depot or workshop and the outside air.
How TRNSEAL Works in Four Steps
- Start at the push of a button: The blower motors are activated via the control cabinet or the remote control. A quick-start guide on the control cabinet makes operation easier.
- Inflation of the cushions: The sealing cushions fill with air in approximately 25 to 30 seconds. The required number of blower motors depends on the gate dimensions.
- Contour sealing: The cushions adapt to the respective train shape. Side bellows and the optional floor cushion close the remaining gap and enable reliable sealing of the remaining area between the rail vehicle and the gate opening.
- Status display: A red-and-white LED light system shows the status both inside and outside. Red means “in operation,” while white signals the idle position and readiness for use.
Thanks to this simple operation, TRNSEAL can be integrated into daily operations without interrupting them. The system is designed for year-round use at temperatures from -20 °C to +55 °C.
The Key Benefits
TRNSEAL combines sealing, energy efficiency, and ease of operation in a system that flexibly adapts to the requirements of different railway operators.
- Suitable for all trains: One system for the entire fleet – from the smallest vehicle to the largest train. A damping element compensates for different contours.
- Custom-made solutions: Gate dimensions, materials, frame position, and system integrations are tailored to the requirements of each site.
- High energy efficiency: Effective sealing reduces heat loss, improves temperature retention, and lowers the energy consumption of climate-control technology.
- Robust construction: Steel frame, aluminium cover panels in RAL colours, resistant sealing pads, and lateral bellows ensure durability in industrial environments.
- Draught protection: TRNSEAL blocks draughts and supports a stable indoor climate – an important contribution to better working conditions for maintenance personnel.
- Easy operation: Activation at the push of a button, a remote control included in delivery, and a clear status display make daily depot operations straightforward.
- Sustainability: Lower heating and cooling loads help reduce energy costs and support sustainability goals in railway operations.
In this way, TRNSEAL offers operators a reliable solution that improves operations, reduces energy costs, and optimises working conditions in the depot.
TRNSEAL Models for Every Requirement
Depending on the site, vehicle type, and safety requirements, a suitable TRNSEAL variant is available – from the standard solution to the special floor seal.
- TRNSEAL Original
The Original model provides a continuous, three-sided inflatable seal along the top and both sides of the vehicle. It is suitable for train halls where an air-tight climate barrier is required without special overhead line or safety requirements. - TRNSEAL E-line
The E-line features a divided top seal that is specifically designed for electric overhead lines. The side sealing remains fully intact, so that electrified entrances can also be sealed efficiently. - TRNSEAL EX-Safety
The EX-Safety model was developed for areas with increased safety requirements. It dispenses with electrical components above two metres in restricted depot areas and is therefore suitable, among other applications, for explosion-protected zones. - TRNSEAL Auto
TRNSEAL Auto integrates a floor seal mounted on the frame. This extends automatically and synchronously with the top seals, reliably closing the area beneath the vehicle. - TRNSEAL Roll
The Roll variant is a flexible, free-standing floor seal. It is manually rolled to the desired position and activated at the push of a button – ideal for changing locations or mobile requirements. - TRNSEAL Rail
TRNSEAL Rail is a specially shaped floor seal for rails. It closes floor gaps around the rails without restricting their free passage.
With these models, TRNSEAL can be precisely adapted to the specific conditions of train halls, depots, and maintenance facilities.
Applications in Railway Operations
TRNSEAL is used wherever rail vehicles pass through the building envelope:
- Train lock doors: Sealing of the remaining gaps around locomotives, multiple-unit trains, and wagons through contour-accurate sealing of the remaining area.
- Service and maintenance gates: Stable temperatures in workshops, even when vehicles frequently enter and exit.
- Depot and workshop entrances: Reduction of draughts at highly frequented entrances.
- Rail interfaces: Customised solutions for every location where rail vehicles move between the outdoor area and the building.
Especially in cold or hot seasons, operators benefit from the continuous separation between the indoor and outdoor climate. At the same time, the system helps to keep dust, moisture, and weather influences out of the hall more effectively.
Individual Planning from Consultation to Installation
Every train hall has its own requirements: gate width, gate height, train types, overhead lines, safety zones, and operating procedures differ from site to site. For this reason, TRNSEAL is not offered as a standard product, but planned as a custom-made solution.
The process begins with the assessment of the gate opening and the vehicle fleet. Based on this, a suitable TRNSEAL configuration is recommended – including the appropriate model variant, material selection, control system, and, if required, a floor seal. From the initial assessment through manufacturing and installation to handover, operators receive a complete solution from a single source.
TRNSEAL is developed and supplied by Weglehner Ges.m.b.H., an Austrian specialist in loading technology, industrial doors, and gate sealing systems. The company’s headquarters are located in Neumarkt im Mühlkreis in Upper Austria, complemented by a branch office in Vienna.
