Project Arktis: State-of-the-Art Deep-Freeze Loading with Weglehner Technology

A new, highly modern deep-freeze logistics center is currently under construction in Himberg as part of the so-called Project Arktis. The facility provides approximately 8,000 square meters of fully automated storage space designed to meet the highest demands for temperature stability, energy efficiency, and operational safety. The project aims to significantly enhance both logistical efficiency and ecological sustainability by substantially shortening delivery routes within Austria and neighboring regions. In deep-freeze logistics—where constant temperatures often below minus 25 degrees Celsius are required—the technical equipment at the loading dock plays a decisive role. Every opening to the external environment carries the risk of heat ingress and energy loss, making specialized loading technology indispensable.

A central feature of the installation is the 35 high-speed freezer doors of the latest generation. These doors open and close within seconds, enabling fast and safe loading and unloading while simultaneously preventing cold air from escaping the warehouse or warm outside air from entering. The result is a significant reduction in energy costs and stable storage temperatures, ensuring compliance with stringent cold chain standards. At the same time, this technology makes a measurable contribution to sustainability through lower energy consumption and reduced CO₂ emissions.
