Installation of New Loading Stations at the Pharma & Deep-Freeze Logistics Center at Linz Harbor

A state-of-the-art pharma & deep-freeze logistics center has recently been completed at Linz Harbor, setting new standards in efficiency, safety, and technical equipment. The facility combines two demanding logistics segments under one roof: on one hand, pharmaceutical logistics, which requires the highest hygiene standards, and on the other, deep-freeze logistics, where an uninterrupted cold chain is absolutely essential. Our client pursued the clear objective of optimally equipping both areas according to their specific requirements—and Weglehner was entrusted as a partner to supply and install the appropriate infrastructure. From initial planning through to final commissioning, we supported the project with our expertise to realize a future-proof, efficient, and code-compliant loading infrastructure.

The requirements for loading technology differ significantly between logistics segments—and this project carefully addressed those distinctions. For the pharmaceutical area, we installed 6 specialized loading stations specifically designed for cleanliness, hygiene, and controlled environmental conditions. These stations prevent dust accumulation, are easy to clean, and thus support compliance with strict GMP and hygiene standards—a mandatory prerequisite for the storage and handling of temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals. In parallel, 7 loading stations for deep-freeze logistics were created to ensure that the cold chain remains unbroken even during loading and unloading. Here, tight sealing, fast door cycles, and thermal separation are critical—all factors that were fully integrated into the planning and execution.

Our scope of supply for the logistics center at Linz Harbor included a comprehensive package of customized loading technology:

• 6 sectional doors for secure, weather-protected, and energy-efficient access
• 13 dock levelers providing a level and stable connection between truck and warehouse—essential for smooth loading and unloading operations
• 1 scissor lift table enabling flexible lifting and loading processes, even with vehicles of varying heights
• 7 high-speed roller doors ensuring high throughput through short opening and closing cycles while simultaneously minimizing heat loss
• Inflatable dock seals that tightly enclose the truck on all four sides at the loading dock—a key contribution to energy efficiency and cold chain integrity. These inflatable seals provide a complete wraparound seal around the vehicle, helping to minimize energy losses.
• 13 traffic light systems enabling clear visual communication with truck drivers, thereby enhancing safety and operational speed at the dock
• 1 fire-rated sliding door ensuring safe, code-compliant compartmentalization within the building and preventing the spread of fire and smoke in case of emergency

Thanks to this holistic equipment package, the logistics center at Linz Harbor meets the highest demands for safety, hygiene, energy efficiency, and operational continuity—both in the sensitive pharmaceutical segment and in demanding deep-freeze operations.
